Dal 2005, quando la WMSCI ha accettato un documento generato automaticamente da un programma progettato per comporre nonsense in forma di paper di ricerca informatica, artefatti di questo tipo sono usati per denunciare l’indolenza o l’inazione dei «guardiani del cancello» del perimetro di «scientificità», ma anche per arricchire i curriculum individuali o rispettare i benchmark quantitativi di pubblicazione. In questo modo, l’impiego di generatori automatici contribuisce a sollevare questioni sullo stile e il contenuto della scrittura accademica e a denunciare criticità nelle relazioni fra ricerca e pubblicazione in un sistema in cui il ranking delle riviste e l’impact factor attribuiscono «valore nominale» agli articoli.
Since 2005, when the WMSCI accepted a document automatically generated by a program designed to produce nonsense which look as Computer Science papers, similar artifacts are used both to denounce the indolence or inaction of the «gatekeepers» of the science realm, and to enrich individual curricula, or meet quantitative publication benchmarks. This «specter» haunting Academia contributes to raise questions about the style and content of academic writing and to denounce critical points in the relationship between research and publication in a system where the journal ranking and the impact factor attribute «face value» to articles.
