Questions of reliability and validity of social media data and of research and decision-making based on social media data
This research is an overview of the frameworks and research explaining the role of the Internet of Things (IoT) can play in the dissemination of cultural content. Several theories are explored to understand how cultural content is transmitted online and in physical format between cultures which have no historical contact prior to the advent of IoT and AI. Moreover, this review investigates how the online content can help or hinder the development of critical thinking of the new generations of digital users and presents an overview of the relationship between the size of societies, technology, critical thinking and democracy. The reviewed literature emphasises the important role of strong institutional and historical support of cultural content in its further dissemination on social media platforms with a higher level of accuracy, as well as the role of human cognition and its slow development in critically evaluating online content and the quality of organic and inorganic activity and decisions made on such evaluations.
