L’articolo adotta una prospettiva teorica a cavallo tra practice-based studies e affect theory al fine di esplorare il legame profondo indistricabile tra pratiche lavorative e stati affettivi, concependo entrambi come esperienze collettive che emergono e mutano assieme. Il contributo, in particolare, propone alcune riflessioni fondate su una ricerca etnografica svolta in alcune residenze per anziani con demenza, mostrando come nei contesti organizzativi attraverso le pratiche di cura si cerchi di prevenire, gestire e modi-#ficare stati affettivi disturbanti con effetti spesso imprevisti sia sugli attori coinvolti sia sulle pratiche stesse. In questo dialogo continuo tra pratiche lavorative e «pratica affettiva» emergono narrazioni volte a dare significato agli stati affettivi così come ai tentativi compiuti per gestirli, preservando gli assetti organizzativi e relazionali vigenti. Il fine principale dell’articolo è, quindi, quello di ripensare alle emozioni così come ad altri stati affettivi in termini processuali interrogandosi non tanto sulla loro natura, bensì sui modi collettivi e socialmente appresi attraverso cui essi vengono mobilitati.
This article adopts a theoretical perspective that integrates practice-based studies and affect theory to explore the intricate interplay between work practices and affective states, viewing both as collective experiences that emerge and evolve together. The contribution offers insights drawn from ethnographic research conducted in two care homes for elderly individuals with dementia. It demonstrates how care practices are implemented to prevent, manage, and alter disturbing affective states, often leading to unexpected outcomes for both professionals and residents. In this ongoing interaction between work practices and ‘affective practice,’ narratives arise that aim to give meaning to affective states and the efforts made to manage them, thereby maintaining existing organizational and relational structures. Consequently, the primary objective of the article is to reconsider emotions and other affective states in processual terms, focusing not so much on their nature, but on the collective and socially learned ways in which they are mobilized.
