L’articolo, che si concentra sui giovani adulti italiani (20-35 anni) trasferitisi a Berlino, offre inizialmente brevi cenni sui flussi migratori che attraversano l’Italia, in modo da inserire le mobilità giovanili nel più ampio quadro dei flussi in ingresso e in uscita, ma anche all’interno dell’Italia. Quindi, si sofferma brevemente sulle differenze fra le attuali mobilità in uscita dal nostro Paese e le migrazioni del dopoguerra. Infine, la parte più corposa e derivante dalla ricerca empirica presenta la varietà di condizioni, percorsi e prospettive dei nostri connazionali nella città di Berlino, restituendo un panorama ricco di sfumature che rimandano a futuri approfondimenti. Infatti, seppur questi giovani adulti appaiano unificati da alcune caratteristiche, è improprio, anzi profondamente fuorviante, parlarne come se si trattasse di un insieme omogeneo, poiché essi non solo vivono condizioni molto diverse, ma anche hanno percorsi passati e capacità di gestione della dimensione del futuro molto diversificati.
The paper focuses on young Italian adults (aged 20-35), who have moved to Berlin. It initially offers a concise overview of the migratory flows affecting Italy, in order to place youth mobility in the broader framework of mobility flows in general (incoming and outgoing, but also within Italy). Then it looks briefly at the differences between current mobility and post-war migration. Finally, the most substantial part of the article – based on empirical research – presents the different conditions, life paths and perspectives of our compatriots in the city of Berlin: a nuanced panorama that calls for further investigation. Indeed, though these young adults may appear to share a number of common characteristics, they cannot be viewed as a homogeneous whole. They present a high degree of diversity not only in terms of their current conditions, but also their past experiences and the skillsets they have at their disposal to take on the future.
