In questo paper traccio un sommario parallelismo dell’evoluzione delle due discipline, finalizzato ad evidenziare quali contributi forniscono alla valutazione, in una prospettiva inter e transdisciplinare. Approfondisco poi il tema della valutazione dell’Università, considerando in particolare gli usi della valutazione e la coerenza dei suoi criteri con le finalità della stessa. Gli approcci sociologici tendono a problematizzare maggiormente i temi delle finalità e usi della valutazione, mentre quelli dell’Ingegneria gestionale, più centrati sui processi, rischiano di spostare eccessivamente l’attenzione sugli aspetti tecnici della valutazione, mettendo in ombra i suoi effetti sul sistema universitario italiano.
In this paper I draw parallels between the development of these two disciplines, with the aim of highlighting how they might contribute to assessment, from an inter- and cross-disciplinary perspective. I then explore the subject of university assessment, examining how this is performed and whether the criteria adopted are consistent with universities’ missions. Sociology is more interested in exploring the aims and uses of evaluation, while management engineering is more focused on processes, shifting the attention to the technical aspects of evaluation, and thus risk overlooking its specific effects on the Italian university system.
