La frontiera tra Bulgaria e Turchia, che fino a pochi decenni fa rappresentava uno dei fronti più caldi della Cortina di ferro, oggi segna il limite orientale dell’Unione Europea e un passaggio chiave della cosiddetta «Rotta balcanica». L’articolo approfondisce la stratificazione migratoria di molteplici (im)mobilità del presente e del passato nelle pratiche e negli immaginari del confine, focalizzandosi in particolare sulle continuità tra il periodo del socialismo reale e la «nuova cortina di ferro europea anti-migranti». Gli inediti corsi e ricorsi storici che emergono corroborano la necessità, innanzitutto metodologica, di storicizzare lo sguardo sulle migrazioni e sulle frontiere.

The border between Bulgaria and Türkiye, which until only a few decades ago constituted one of the hottest fronts of the Iron Curtain, today marks the eastern limit of the European Union and a key crossing point along the so-called «Balkan Route». This article examines the migratory stratification of multiple (im)mobilities of the present and the past, embedded in the practices and imaginaries of the border, with particular attention to the continuities between the period of state socialism and the «new European anti-migrant Iron Curtain». The novel historical recurrences that emerge underscore the need – first and foremost methodological – to historicize our analytical gaze on migration and borders.
